Athenian Taxis
Don't take a taxi unless you really have to. I know not all taxis in Athens are bad, but there are a fair number who are just out to make as much as they can out of tourists, so always be extra wary.

Shopping on the Plaka
There's no doubt the the Plaza is an pretty expensive place to shop for most things. Most of the same goods, completely identical, are cheaper elsewhere. Some of the restaurants here are also pricey, but there are a few which looked reasonable. We came here to see the Acropolis, which was just amazing. I couldn't stop taking photos of it!
